What Sets Us Apart

  • On, March 1, 2012, The Providence Center became the first provider in Rhode Island to use the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS). The scale is being used at The Providence Center’s facilities, in the emergency rooms at Roger Williams and Fatima Hospitals where The Providence Center is located, and will be rolled out by the end of March 2012 in the agency’s community-based programs.
  •   (Recovery-oriented, Empathic Services Proactively Empowering Consumers in Treatment) provides access to clinically appropriate services for indigent and uninsured Rhode Islanders with acute substance use, psychiatric and co-occurring issues.
  • CharterCARE Connect, a partnership between The Providence Center and CharterCare Health Partners, a hospital network of Roger Williams Medical Center and Fatima Hospital, established The Providence Center as the sole provider of inpatient and emergency mental health and substance abuse services at Fatima Hospital and the sole provider of emergency mental health and substance abuse services at Roger Williams Medical Center.
  • Home Base, a partnership of community organizations helping chronically homeless individuals in Providence, Pawtucket, Central Falls, Cranston and Woonsocket focus on their recovery from co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders.
  • The Providence Center and Providence Community Health Centers collaborated to create Providence Community Health Centers at North Main, a patient-centered medical home providing comprehensive quality on-site primary healthcare services for adults experiencing mental health and substance abuse problems. Providence Community Health Centers at North Main is located at The Providence Center’s main facility at 530 North Main Street.
  • Anchor Recovery Community Center, Rhode Island’s first recovery center, opened at 249 Main Street in Pawtucket. Anchor provides people in recovery from substance abuse problems with the environment and resources they need to help them sustain their recovery, including peer facilitated support groups, wellness activities, career planning support and social events six days a week. The Providence Center sponsors the operations of the Anchor Recovery Community Center.
  • The Providence Center's Crisis Stabilization Unit is the only one of its kind in Providence, Rhode Island. The Unit provides specialized care to stabilize patients experiencing an acute psychiatric and/or substance abuse crisis. Patients receive medical, educational and therapeutic services designed to support their individual needs and ensure a successful transition back to the community.

  • InShape, a research-based wellness program, was implemented to decrease clients’ behavioral health symptoms, reduce chronic disease and improve overall well-being. The program later expanded to include InShape Seniors, funded by the Tufts Foundation, for people over 65 with behavioral health needs. Clients in both programs are guided by health mentors who help them set wellness goals and accompany them to community fitness and wellness activities and programs such as yoga, water aerobics, weight training, food shopping, and nutrition education. The Providence Center is the only provider of InShape Seniors in the United States and one of only four certified InShape providers.
  • The Providence Center's Early Childhood Institute was the first therapeutic day care facility in Rhode Island to help children with psychiatric and emotional problems and is a model for preschool and therapeutic day treatment programs throughout New England.
  • The Providence Center School LogoThe Providence Center School has been providing special education services to Rhode Island students for over 20 years.
  • The Providence Center is one of three Rhode Island providers of Multisystemic Therapy, an evidence-based intensive family and community-based treatment for youth with complex clinical, social and educational challenges.
  • The Providence Center's Latino Team is the only bilingual, bicultural team targeted to serve the mental health needs of the Latino community.
  • The Providence Center's Electronic Medical Record gives physicians and clinicians secure access to their clients' records twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week from any location using an Internet-connected browser.
  • The Providence Center has integrated commercial Internet-based electronic prescribing with its clinical information systems to improve efficiencies and enhance the quality of care provided to our clients.
