Acute Care Services

Girl Deep in ThoughtAcute Care Services provides emergency services on-site and in the community.  Assessments are conducted 24 hours a day, seven days a week for children, adolescents and adults experiencing a psychiatric or substance abuse emergency. Whenever clinically appropriate, we seek community alternatives to hospitalization.

Services include:

  • Initial psychiatric assessment
  • Medication
  • Nursing
  • Psychiatric evaluations
  • Individual therapy
  • Substance abuse counseling
  • Homeless outreach
RESPECT provides access to clinically appropriate services for indigent and uninsured Rhode Islanders with acute substance use, psychiatric and co-occurring issues.
Crisis Stabilization Unit
Provides specialized care to stabilize patients experiencing an acute psychiatric or substance abuse crisis.

CharterCARE Connect
A partnership between The Providence Center and CharterCare Health Partners, a hospital network of Roger Williams Medical Center and Fatima Hospital, establishing The Providence Center as the sole provider of inpatient and emergency mental health and substance abuse services at Fatima Hospital and the sole provider of emergency mental health and substance abuse services at Roger Williams Medical Center.

The Providence Center is a participant in a number of major health insurance plans, including state-sponsored plans.
