The Charles E. Maynard (CEM) Society annual gathering was held on May 7 at the historic Hope Club in Providence. This special recognition, named in honor of The Providence Center's founder, Charles E. Maynard, was established to acknowledge donors who have made a significant investment to The Providence Center. To be inducted into the CEM Society, members have named The Providence Center as a beneficiary of a planned gift, such as a bequest, trust or retirement plan, or have a cumulative giving history totaling $10,000 or more.
Dale K. Klatzker, Ph.D., president/CEO of The Providence Center, thanked everyone for helping children and adults in the community receive the services they need to be healthier. "When we talk about how your contribution makes a difference, we like to talk about people--people whose lives you’ve changed and people whose lives you’ve saved," said Klatzker. "None of this would be possible without our donors. Quite simply, you helped make recovery possible for more 12,000 children and low-income families we serve each year."
Guest speaker at the event was Dr. Sylvester “Skip” Sviokla, III, author of “From Harvard to Hell…and Back,” which recounts his personal journey through addiction to recovery. He is a Harvard-educated doctor who lost everything, but gained his life back through recovery. He now leads Medical Assisted Recovery of Rhode Island, specializing in substance abuse counseling, mental health counseling and Suboxone addiction treatment. Through his book and speaking appearances he brings the message of recovery. Dr. Sviokla praised The Providence Center for providing recovery programs that foster lasting results and help family members cope during their loved one’s recovery journey.
