Chief Medical Officer Dr. Michael Silver was honored by the Rhode Island Psychiatric Society with its prestigious Eleanor Slater Award. Dr. Silver is the first Rhode Island physician to have received this award in recognition for his life-long commitment, dedication and service to people with mental illness at the local, state and national level.
Established in 2001, this award recognizes a public figure who has made a significant and sustained contribution toward the provision of services for persons with mental illness, and who has fought stigma by speaking out and supporting psychiatric care and treatment. The award also seeks to encourage advocacy for persons with mental illness. It is established in honor of Eleanor Slater, a long-time friend to persons with psychiatric disorders. Other persons who have received this award include TPC's founder and former CEO/President Mr. Charles Maynard, Congressman Patrick Kennedy, Mr. Reed Cosper and Mr. James McNulty.
RIPS executive council's vote was unanimous in Dr. Silver's favor, demonstrating his stature and respect within the both the Rhode Isand physician and psychiatric community.
