Recovery Coaches Honored at State House

A class of 14 newly certified peer recovery coaches were honored in ceremonies before the Rhode Island House and Senate committees. The ceremonies were led by Rep. Patricia A. Serpa, D-West Warwick and Sen. Joshua Miller, D-Cranston.

Recovery coaches--peers who have lived experience in recovery from mental health and addiction issues--have become critical components in The Providence Center's recovery support services. Coaches are deployed to the emergency rooms of local hospitals as a part of AnchorED, a program created in response to high numbers of opiate overdose deaths in Rhode Island. The recovery coaches meet with overdose survivors to encourage them to engage in treatment and connect patients with resources.
