On Monday, February 4, 2013, The Providence Center and The Greater Providence YMCA held a grand opening event to launch the nation’s first recovery community center located on-site at a YMCA facility.

“This partnership exemplifies the way that community organizations can come together to make a difference in the lives of the people we jointly serve,” said Dr. Dale Klatzker, President/CEO of The Providence Center. “One in ten people are in recovery from substance abuse in the United States and looking to improve their health and find a community that supports both their wellness and recovery goals. By pooling resources, The Providence Center and Greater Providence YMCA are helping people improve their lives and their community.”

The Providence Center’s Anchor Recovery Community Center, Warwick, located on site at The Kent County YMCA, will provide people in recovery, their families and supporters with recovery groups, one-on-one recovery coaching, resources, referrals and special events. Anchor Recovery Community Center, Warwick members who are not YMCA members will also have access to YMCA services. The combined services and partnership recognizes recovery as a component of each individual’s commitment to wellness and exercise, nutrition, and community as important elements in the recovery process.

The Providence Center is at the forefront of innovative approaches to behavioral health care designed to meet the changing needs of the more than 12,000 people served each year. Since The Providence Center opened its doors in 1969, it has been a community fixture, providing people from all walks of life with mental health and substance use services in their homes, schools and neighborhoods. In addition to comprehensive high quality behavioral health services, The Providence Center gives people the tools they need to succeed. Through more than 40 programs and wraparound services, including food and housing, job training, legal services, primary health care and wellness activities, The Providence Center helps the people it serves recover.
