The Providence Center’s Crisis Stabilization Unit provides short-term care for patients experiencing an acute psychiatric and/or substance use crisis that could escalate to a point of requiring hospitalization. As an alternative to hospitalization or as a step-down for a transition between levels of care, the CSU’s services focus on stabilizing clients and addresses their mental health and substance use needs.
The CSU is staffed with a highly skilled team of psychiatrists, nurses, clinicians and case managers specializing in mental health and substance use crisis intervention. Patient-focused, recovery-based services utilize a variety of modalities in addition to traditional therapies.

The Crisis Stabilization Unit is located on the campus of Butler Hospital.
For referrals, call the Crisis Stabilization Unit directly at (401) 383-5150, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Referrals are accepted from emergency rooms, inpatient facilities and behavioral health providers. The CSU staff will conduct comprehensive assessments to determine appropriate admissions.
